Transfer Web Sites with SecureFX

SecureFX is a Windows program to transfer files between computers. It can be used to copy, rename, and delete files and folders. It uses the standard FTP and Secure FTP (SFTP) protocols to communicate with other network computers. One limitation of these protocols is that files cannot be edited in place. If file content needs changing, do the edits before transferring the file with SecureFX.

Log On

1. Start SecureFX.

If you do not have the SecureFX program, get it from DoIT.

2. When it starts, SecureFX opens a "Connect" window by default. You can also open a new connect window by choosing File > Connect... from the menu bar.

3. Click the New Session icon on the Connect windows toolbar (see Figure 1) to start the New Session wizard.

6. After a logging on, a window displays the content of your home folder on the server. The "public_html" folder is your web site folder. Double-click on the "public_html" folder to view its contents. The "index.html" file is a default home page. Either replace it or its contents with your own.

Transfer Files and Folders

7. To copy files and folders, it is easiest to drag and drop them between the remote and local windows. This is the best way to upload a whole folder "as is". Note that files cannot be edited in place. Download them to your computer, make changes, and return them to the server.

Exit

8. Choose File > Quit to exit SecureFX.
